Self-help links

The clients I see are usually struggling with symptoms that are persisting and interfering with daily living activities.  The following information is intended to help employees to become expert patients, so that they can take an active part in managing their health and making informed treatment choices.

The links below are based on NHS and NICE evidence and include validated self-assessment questionnaires, to improve the information and symptom history that you provide to your GP.  This does not replace the advice of your GP and all visitors to this site are advised to engage with their GP surgery to ensure safe, consistent treatment.

The following are links are to employment related information and support for long term conditions.  If your condition is not listed, further helpful information can be found here.

Expert Patients Programme (EPP)

EPP, a thriving Community Interest Company gives people more control over their conditions through cognitive therapy courses.

EPP has made a particular difference to people with long-term illnesses, such as diabetes, arthritis or respiratory problems, by teaching them how to self manage and monitor their own symptoms. “It’s giving patients more control,” says Renata Drinkwater, Chief Executive (interim). “Courses like these are proven to make a difference. They boost confidence and, in some cases, can delay the onset of other conditions. They also have other benefits, like reducing the amount of times the patient needs to go into hospital or use Accident and Emergency.”” Department for Business, Innovation & Skills
